Diorama……do you remember??

Do you remember making shadow boxes when you were little? That is what I called them anyways…….we used shoe boxes and would create 3D worlds inside of them……..

Apparently their “proper” name is Diorama’s…………….not to be confused with Di-a-ree……well, I’ll stop, my momma won’t think it is funny……

But anyway…..I love these things……I love that you can make little worlds…..

I would work so hard on these………this one took me so long……

Ok…it isn’t mine…some genius’s on the internet.

Like their own little worlds………….

This was usually more up to my level of creativity…………isn’t it cute though? I have one like this that Challenger did when he was little…..I LOVE IT!

I mean hello……..this was a diorama, not to be confused with….di-a-re..just teasing mom……but anyways…..this was made by a diorama genuis!

Is that working lights? Hardwood floors???

Teachers pet…….

What about this one?

Hello??? I must have been such a disappointment to all of my art teachers.

What is our fascination of peering into these little worlds?

Creating pretend lives……

I was remind of “di-or-am-as” : )…hee hee……can’t help it……..when Challenger, Freebird and I saw this historical site the other day.
It is the old “Esso” station……I guess I don’t have to write it out as you can read it yourself…..so go ahead and read it…..then……..peer into their “real diorama”………..
The family has kept this intact and next to their newer store……….

You know we have passed by this for years and never bothered to stop…..this time we did….

And we had no clue the little world that awaited…….
That’s me peering into the window…..aren’t I tiny, toned and tan???

Ok….I lied…….it’s Freebird……bet you couldn’t tell though ; ) I mean that is soooo how tiny and toned I am……for real…I’m sure…..

Off the subject, but her trainer the other day saw me in the grocery store and said to her later, “hey I thought I saw you in grocery but then I realized it wasn’t you, does you mom look just like your twin?” She graciously laughed, as she can’t stand this comment but I LOVE THEM.

Anyways…I saw the trainer the other day and I said ..as I was sucking in my stomach, with my posture perfect as to look slimmer…and through clenched teeth as I wasn’t breathing in order to keep my gut in…..”so Britt said you thought you saw her in the grocery and it was me”..laughing like….you crazy kid…I get that all the time…..

You know….feeling cute, tiny and oh so young looking and he preciously said….”Oh yeah, but as soon as you look again you definitely could tell it wasn’t her”……yep…..I exhaled finally…..and got my little lesson in awareness of “age” truth…….wasn’t that a special moment?

But anyways…..back to our “diorama’s “…………..truly, this was a neat memory that I had been missing with my kids as I just didn’t take the time to stop.

And all these years I have passed by and missed this………it’s own real life “diorama”………

All set up like it used to be when it operated……..

Food and all….

I had to get over the fear that rats were feasting on these peanuts in the dark ……but I did just get lost in the peering into another world……..I LOVED it………….just like I did as a child.

A pretend world…….a memory…….
Checkers…….the old candy……..(rat picture out of head, rat picture out of head)……the rockers…..I loved the picture this represented…….a simpler time…….but another world……

Made me wonder about creating dioramas from times we remember in our lives……grandmas house……aunt d’s barn………One of my old houses as I remember it……..Auntie M’s house….my bedroom my mom surprised me and decorated totally Holly Hobbie……..if you could choose a memory that you would want to freeze like this…….what would it be?

I got extra shoe boxes…..anyone want a challenge? Mine would be the pitifully plain one with dangly stuff and plastic wrap……so feel free to challenge…….we could have a diorama contest…..Hmmmmm…One specific memory……running upstairs at Grandma’s house and a simple pile of toys…they were there for years…there were these plastic pieces, that would join together and form cubes , old dolls…..simple, worn toys but so fun to know were there…that she had them there for us.

Maybe you all should choose next contest. Deadline for tomorrow is 6pm and we need more comments. I had the most views ever and so few comments…..so come on…is commenting that tricky?

25$ gift card …….you could just go crazy with 25 smackeroos! ; )

Choose next contest and I have a neat idea for a new prize…….

This comment……Give me a choice of contest and an idea of what your diorama would be.

I love memories…….

It’s time to share…..pass them on…..freeze frame them for our children.

We have so many stories to tell that I am afraid they do not know.

Let’s not let it pass.

Love,

Me

So is there really only 5 comments on your blog? I feel wealthier already. Big 25.00 might be coming my way!!!!!!
Does this count as a blog also. So I would have 2 out of 6 chances to win the BIG prize? Come on Rebecca…

Ok, don’t put me in the draw, I just had to say that I knew for $25VB would come out of the closet!!! LOL

I immediately thought of three scenarios for shadow boxes. The first was my college dorm room my freshman year. We glued different colored shag carpet squares on the floor. We had the coolest and coziest room on the floor.

The second was a flash of a typical school day for my kids, but it was the first nippy day of fall. We had built a fire and had warm cidar with cinnamon sticks in it and they were sitting around the coffee table doing their school work.

The third was of our international church. It had six different colored banners on the walls done in six different languages and the chairs were filled with different colored people.

These represent some of the best times of my life and conjure up the most delightful and warm memories.

Ok, most of that sounds really nice, but I must say. I think that crimeanmsnry when a little too far when saying that she had her four little children sitting around a table sipping warm cidar with cinnamon sticks. To do their school work. I know her children, I just can’t picture that. But I am sure that is her memory and we will let her keep it. Ok, all that to say, yes I came out of the closet for 25 big ones.

This makes me think about the eggs that my Mom would have diplayed in her home at Easter time. Each time I would look into them I would see something different. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

ok, VB, I don’t want to argue on the blog of the one that talks too much….put I have proof in black and white….actually in color. Then on the same day I have a picture of one of the kids on the couch with their feet up in the air fighting off one that was lunging at them. (I’m sure that was after the schoolwork was all finished though!)
