I totally think I’m gonna do this……..

So Challenger comes home Friday night and decides he would like to run in a 5k race in our small home town the next morning.

Was a super cold, super wet morning and totally last minute….but he was still up for it and I was super excited about it.

So we got there super early to register in the rain…….

Challenger began stretching and preparing for event.

Please note that all public photos of Challenger are taken in a rushed stage so as to not humiliate or aggravate or otherwise devastate……….so just bear with the fuzziness………..
See Challenger …… these boys didn’t mind the creeper mom……look at the little boy with the toboggan thingy on his head…..he seems really happy I’m taking his picture…..hey buddy!

Romeo had us placed to see Challenger in different positions throughout the race…thank you Romeo!

The race had just started…….and see right there……the cutie with white sleeves under his blue shirt ….he is in a little group leading the pack!

I’m sure his thoughts at this moment are…… “please do NOT tell me that is my mom standing in the middle of the road taking my picture!”

Hey Bud!!!! Momma loves ya!
That’s him coming up the hill strong!

Not a great picture because Romeo is dragging me back from the road before I humiliated my child.

I ran behind them snapping pictures as fast as I could until Romeo yanked on the shock collar that he thinks I need at these mother son events and I made my way forlornly back to the jeep to be at the finish line when he came in.

Didn’t train……..
Didn’t work out…….
And placed second in his age category and #40 out of 130 entries…………

I was so proud and cannot wait until his next event!

But I was also intrigued……..

I mean…..when I was chasing him around with my camera, I didn’t get breathless…….

When I ran after him to make sure he knew where he placed…..I didn’t get side cramps……

When I was stretching with him to give him support…...I didn’t pull any hamstrings…….

And I started thinking…….

I THINK I CAN DO THIS!

I mean….wouldn’t he love that extra time with me???!!!!
Now….I must have a little disclaimer that in no way, shape or beautiful form will I finish even closely resembling “Little Miss beautiful 302″……

Hello????

Who can run like that in the rain and look that beautiful? Ran with her hair down mind you!

But nonetheless……..I am aiming for end of January as my first run…………

My goal is simple…….

To finish.

I would also prefer it to not be in the 16 person passenger van that I saw brave souls pass through the finish line in at end of race.

Brave people! Bravo! How cool are they?! I truly was so impressed!

But Challenger….he may not be so impressed with me pale faced…..nauseated and waving from the window of the van at the back of his head………..

So, I have got to be able to run over the finish line……

I’m determined!

Plus…….
I mean…..look at her! I so want that to be my body!

So I am gonna do it!

Told Challenger I’m in for next event …he didn’t seem to really not like the idea but I think in his mind he is relishing the thought of “beating me badly” in time….. he needs a little lesson…….hopefully I can teach him one ; )

I am going to do it but I am also going to make sure I do not embarrass my son in doing so.

So, I thought I would make some mental notes from Saturdays event to remember for next time to prevent a stressful, embarrassing situation for Challenger arising……

Notes to self:

#1. When taking 14 year old teen son to any public or private event where it is wet and your cute workout pants hems are getting wet……..DO NOT ROLL YOUR SAID PANTS UP ABOVE YOUR ANKLES AND WALK AROUND SAID EVENT! Not cool………

#2. When rain is misting in near freezing conditions and you and your before mentioned teen son have to stand in registration line……….DO NOT PULL OUT YOUR SUPER BIG BLACK UMBRELLA THAT YOU USE ALL THE TIME!
HUMILIATED SON WILL ACT AS IF YOU ARE DANCING AROUND PARKING LOT SINGING.
…..”Just a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down“…..quickly pack that baby back in the car and grab the small portable umbrella before he runs away. Not cool…….

#3. When child from your womb chooses to be in the mentioned event and you see them announcing placements….. do not plow your way through people to TAKE A PICTURE of the paper that they post times and places on .……..Child from your womb will appear to wither and disappear before your eyes. Not cool…….

#4. And although these beautiful ladies can pull it off…….with style and sass……
Do not attempt to wear any Holiday decorations upon your head or body as said “womb child” will refuse to even get out of the car and will probably attempt to leave promptly. Not cool….to him….I loved it and thought they were adorable!

Then…..finally……#5. Drum roll please……..if you do think you are going to have to finish in the 16 passenger van….. BEG them to please drop you off right before visibility to the finish line, so that Challenger will see you run through the finish and not be driven through on 4 wheels.

So I’m ready and I’m starting my training………

Now that I’ve blogged about it, I can’t back out!

Eeeekkkkk!!!!!

So wish me luck…..pray for my boy….this will be good for him!

Or traumatizing…….

Or hilarious!!!

And you all know that you will be the first ones I share it to!

1 1/2 months…….On your mark……get set…..and go!

Love,

Me
