Road trip……

Took a trip down to the North end of the beach yesterday so we went by our old home we lived in for most of my life before we all hauled up and moved further inland and built the family commune on Rattlesnake Alley……….

This palm tree used to have a twin………and when it and it’s previous twin were shorter their fronds would create a shelter that reached to the ground that created the perfect hideout for a clubhouse when we were pre-teen age. It is in that palm frond clubhouse that I got my first kiss in a truth or dare game.
It was wet.

We had six bedrooms in this house and as one older child would move out we would all switch around. At one time I got to stay in the room at the corner here……..purple shag carpet……and a perfect window for my Longhorn sister to sneak out of to go cruise the boulevard when I was innocently pretending to be sleeping………

We didn’t have this propane tank during my day but the window by which it sits looks into some of the neatest and sweetest years of my memories.
This is the bedroom that I “shared” with baby brother brat……..a jack and jill bedroom split by a closet……..the same room that he tee tee’d in our registers in until they rusted out.
It was where I decided  a few years later that I was going to be a clothing designer so I proceeded to bribe Baby Brother Brat to lay down on some denim fabric so I could make him designer jeans.
I traced out his short, stubby and probably dirty legs……….and then cut the denim out……I sewed the pieces with my Holly Hobbie sewing machine together and realized………….
#1…..that’s not how you make jeans apparently
#2……I wasn’t going to be a clothing designer.
This Jack and Jill closet housed my purple Hee Haw overall’s by the way……….one of our Hazard relatives made sure I had a matching pair that my cousin had…..
Thanks.
Milk and Honey hand me down records from my Buckeye sister were played in here…….It also housed a window seat that daddy made that I loved to lay on and read with a hair dryer buzzing on my head wrapped in pink foam curlers.
I truly could go on and on…….but that will be for another day………..

Sweet memories……sweet times…….
Sweet road trip.
Love,
Me
