Would you pass this up?
I’m curious.
If you saw this at one of your local yard sales……Goodwills….Salvation Army’s……..
Would you pass it up?
The shade is off white…..a few stains…..and really out of style.
Would you hurry up and get out your nickel spray to paint this baby modern real quick?
Would you doubt if $6.99 is even worth it because of the age of the lamp?
Thinking you may need to re-wire it?
Or…..
Would you see the potential and say………
I can get a new shade…..
Get rid of that ugly color……
And then it will be worth investing $6.99.
Well…..if you said yes to any of the above…….
Be very careful.
Today, I went to my local Goodwill and I spotted this little lamp.
I wasn’t sure about it because of all the above things I just mentioned but it felt like a quality piece.
It was really heavy…….and I was looking it over and debating losing $7.00 to a foolish purchase and noticed this……
F Cooper……..
And I wondered……..
Hmmmmmmmm………
So, I put it in my cart and considered if $6.99 was worth it.
AND
Decided yeah….I could spruce it up……blog about how I was going to change it up….and bought it.
Then later, it killed me that I spent that much…..because I am so cheap…..so I googled,
F Cooper and this is what I saw…………
Frederick Cooper Dominea Repousse Blossoms Table Lamp
Use this detailed table lamp by Frederick Cooper to bring a new sophistication into your home.
$604.91
So I googled some more…
HUH???? WHAT????? FOR REAL?????Â
Seriously???? Can you even imagine if I would have changed it up??? The original “ugly” shade….that states F.Cooper…..well….that apparently adds hundreds of dollars of value????  |
You need to go over and link this up on Vintage Revivals blog.  You’ll enjoy Mandi’s blog.  She’s having “Lamp Week” all this week and I believe her linky party for lamp themed posts opened up today.  What a great find! Â

What a stoke of good luck girl!! I’m so happy you: a.) Bought it because it’s a beautiful little lamp. b.) did not change it before you found out it’s value. c.) made such an insightful comment on overlooking the beauty of age. I like to think you would have enjoyed it for it’s beauty anyway!!! It is a really sweet little lamp. I hated the thought you would paint it with nickel spray paint!!
I would like to know what made you google the name on a random goodwill lampshade find? Take care, VBg
VBg….you would love something vintage ; ) On googling the name…..it is my daddys blood. His family always bought and sold rare or vintage items……when I see a name on something I always wonder if I have an item that is valuable….Now, with google, I don’t have to wait to go to Barnes and Noble or library and find out ; ) Love, Me

I’ve never even heard of F. Cooper but, thankfully, you have. Glad you snagged one of his lamps. I would do the new shade and leave the rest of it alone. :))

Great find & guilty purchase!  I found a white enameled bamboo metal chandelier that looked like a pagoda at the Habitat Re-Store in Austin, TX.  After much thought, purchased it for $18.  She hung in the garage for 2 years & then moved with me to Florida.  I finally hung it in my entry & decided to see if I could find out more about it.  Well, I located one on eBay that had recently sold for $299!!!  Didn’t realize I had an original Hollywood Regency Tole chandelier!  Glad I never painted mine either!  (And YES … it will be cremated with me!)
@864062ba487291d6ffa6c778d76a30e5:disqus , I had never heard of him but the lamp felt so heavy and felt “quality” that it made me wonder if it wasn’t some kind of neat antique. That is how I was “lucky” enough to find out before I changed it…..I’m with you though. Gonna keep the shade….but in my attic ; ) Love, me
@twitter-107483729:disqus I’m glad you found me too! Heading over to your blog right now to read more about your awesome lamp that you created! Thank you for stopping by! Don’t be a stranger! Love, me
