Once upon a time……

Romeo’s great grandmother hand stitched this quilt.

She lived in a cabin near where we celebrated a small family reunion this afternoon.

His 60 year old cousin has it hanging in his cabin that he built near the old “homestead” where their great grandmother lived.

Wow…..hand stitched…..in a cabin……with scraps of clothing…made for warmth.

Over a century ago.

Romeo’s family dates back to this region all the way to the 1700’s.

I have been tracing both of our family tree’s on ancestry.com.

Remind me to tell you where my name Rebecca, came from.

Anyone want to take a guess?

This beautiful sink…..

Had nothing to do with his history and wasn’t even old.

I just took a picture of it in the bathroom.

You’re welcome.

Isn’t it pretty?

But back to the quilt……hundreds of pieces stitched together.

So many pieces and patches of life…… come together to make our today’s.

Some pieces may have crooked ugly stitches….some pieces have beautiful colors and perfect stitches….but all together to create our today.

A masterpiece.

How much do you know of your history?

I want my children to know more of my history……

Before memories dim……..stories are forgotten…….and years swiftly pass.

You all are now a piece of my quilt.

You are now part of my story…….

How colorful!

Thank you…….

Nice quilt! I don’t have a quilt, but I do have about 30 table clothes from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. My Grandma gave them to my Mom, who never used them by the way and now I have them and use them every day! Yay for me!

I love this post.  I have my great grandma Haddie’s bread pail.  I adore it.  I am sure she made bread for her family every week in that bread pail.  I love the connection it gives me to her and to my heritage.
