Bow -Chicka- Wow-WHA…..?

I found this little pretty at Salvation Army the other day.

$9.00 had to be pried from my tight little fist.

It was SO BUGLY.

Old motel chairs, are found plentiful in these parts.

I have been wanting to try my hand at re-upholstering…..I have only done dining room chair seats….many, many years ago…..AND I had the extra fabric from our “little lamb ottoman transformation“.

So…..I paid the $9.00.

And got busy.

I do not have needle nosed pliers….and the name of the game is, “using what I have”….which I did.

The staples seemed to come out easier by pulling on the fabric.

There were approximately 1,444,672 staples.

I counted.

They were frustrating me and rusty.

I got the seat naked…but left the back fabric on and took the piping off.

See?

Ok….so here was my plan.

I spray painted black here and there, so that when I distressed the black would show thru….

Then…..

I  wanted to try my hand at metallic spray painted furniture…..I wanted that “antiqued mercury” kind of look…..sort of..….

So…..

I covered the seat with our Fuzzy blanket leftovers .

And spray painted the chair with metallic spray paint.

Or, I spray painted the chair……. then covered the seat….

Whichever order it was……..

After I spray painted the seat, I rubbed sand paper over it, while it was still tacky….. to give it that “antiqued mercury” look that you see in Pottery Barn products.

THEN…..

I sanded the edges once it had dried for the black to peep through.

I WAS LOVING IT!

While it was not fully completed……
My daughter came out and said….

Her: “MOM, I LOVE IT! BUT……is it sorta’ like from an old 70’s movie?”

Me: “No….it’s the rage right now….metallic is in…the black and white is super popular too…this is so cool!”

Her:…..”I love it….but it sort of reminds me of …..well…..you know…..like a bad movie?”

Me: “Huh?” “Like a horror movie?” “What do you mean? This is totally THE STYLE!” (sounding a tad unsure of myself)

Her:…..”Don’t worry….I love it mom….”

And I worked away….

This fabric was a breeze to do this with because it hid all of the staples……

I did the back by starting underneath…..like this…..

Then, when it got close to the end….put it down and finished it off and hid the staples in the furry blanket.

Same thing with the back……

If there was ever a crime scene with any of the furniture that I have distressed….my prints would be all over them….I rush things…..work when paint is wet…….

Messy, messy girl….

But that is what sandpaper is for. To keep me from being placed at scenes of crime.

Sanding away my wet fingerprints, once the paint dries.
Any-whoo….I worked away and finished up………
Want to see the before again?

I LOVE THIS ONE!

BEFORE……

And after!

I loved it and Freebird loved it……I was so excited that I sent photo’s of  it to my sister-in-law immediately and she said….

Her: “Are you guys opening up some kind of “shady” place?”

Me: “Wha??” “HUH?” “ARE YOU SERIOUS?”

Her: “Ummmm….the metallic…..fuzzy blankets w/black spikey stuff, it’s like a dirty old 70’s movie”..

Me: “What kind of stuff do you guys watch on TV?”

The only bad movie I knew in the 70’s was John Travolta’s, “Staying Alive” and I wasn’t allowed to watch it….

So, help me!

Ummmmmmm guys????

Am I a closet pervert and don’t even know it?

Am I making my baby girls apartment look like a brothel?

She’s my baby!

Please tell me that I’m not blinded again by my effort.

She loves it and we are distressing a cute little table that she is going to use as a desk and vanity and this chair is going with it.

What do you think?

I was so excited to do a project like this.

Not something I would use in my home but so fun for a single girls first apartment.

OMG! A single girls apartment!

What have I done?

Let me know your thoughts!

Do I need intervention or do you love it?!

In case you would like to open your own brothel, here is what I used……

It was so easy!

I mean…..not like EASY……

Oh dear.

Talk to me people.

Love,

Me

HAHAHA I can see what they mean, but also I think it’s a fantastic conversation starter lol… I had weird things in my first apartment, and I showed them off… so funny! I don’t get the wrong idea at all… I just think it’s hysterical 😀

As usual, you have started my day off smiling!  The chair is, um, well…it’s really adorable and since it’s going the same place the ‘little lamb” went I think it’s perfect.  I’m wanting to try that ‘metallic’ paint, too.  I’m thinking a mirror that I got out of the garbage (!!) over a bookcase.  It will be my first EVER.  My daughter is not so accepting as yours.  We’ll see.

Perfect chair for a single girl’s vanity table! (but also slightly reminiscent of a 70’s movie…NOT that there’s anything wrong with that….)
    Hugs,

I am so happy I came across your blog :)   I love the chair and ottoman. You have given me so many ideas.  I found a couple of things at Goodwill that need redone and You have inspired me with ideas. And I am not sure what is so bad about the 70’s, I grew up in that era and I loved it. I think a lot of that style is coming back and I couldn’t be happier.  Keep up the good work!!!

Well it is a tad brothelish, but I would have KILLED for a chair like that when I was her age 🙂 I don’t know if you should maybe be terrified by that thought or not…ya you probably should…nice work though 🙂
