I picked up two, sweet, antique chairs from a local Salvation Army.
I couldn’t bear to paint them. Their age…patina….and wood grain……it was love at first sight.
But I needed to lighten them up. Bring them into “today” for re-sale.
So I decided a slip cover would be a great option.
But…I didn’t want the cover to hide some of their precious features.
Like their unique spindles and backs……
AND...I didn’t want to pay to have the covers done…..BUT…. I can’t sew….
So, I decided to see what I could come up without. sewing. a. stitch.
Ok……before I show you.
I didn’t want the standard cover…..I wanted to highlight the features I loved on these chairs.
I wanted to give them a neat, tidy, crisp, look…… not ruffly.
A chair that would be at home in a white, beach, cottage….. a traditional style home….or a rustic farmhouse.
Are you ready?
I toyed with the length and this “mid calf” version, this length really gave it more of the look I wanted.
Is it growing on you yet?
I wanted a true, slip, cover. It’s little “straps” embrace the spindles…..look how the spindles are in sets of two. I just love them.
I’m “wood weird”…aren’t I?
Just so you know…this is my favorite color of wood.
Want to see some details that may have you scratching your head and thinking….”how did she do that without sewing?”
Are you scratching your head?
Have it all figured out?
I bet it’s both.
I know this style is different.
But I wanted different.
AND guess what?
Tonight…..I tested the CL market.
Apparently, I’m not the only one who likes it…”different”. I finally pulled the ad after getting a “slew” of emails.
For real. They liked it.
It’s crooked. I can fix that.
Want to see the “NO sew” edging…piping…or whatever you call it?
I still have to make the other chairs “half”-slip-cover and plan to do it a little differently.
Maybe even a little color….I’m not sure.
I had no clue what I was going to do with this cover when I started…it just evolved into this and it only took about an hour.
But I think it accomplished what I wanted.
I also am not “hating” on sewing….
I WANT TO LEARN!
If you can’t sew….
And you want to take what I did and design a cover that fits your style.
I can tell you how I did mine.
A new life…for an old piece.
Without changing a thing that made it beautiful in the first place.
Want to know how?
Let me hear from you!
