Couch potato to 10k

Yes, you read that correctly.

I am attempting to prepare myself for a 10k run on Thanksgiving Day.

Romeo is preparing himself for a 5k.

My hubby/trainer was in the golf cart snapping a pic as I gasped around the corner. See my parents unusual lawn ornaments in the background?

Romeo is going to fast/walk the 5k. I’m so proud of him. He had his knee replaced July 12th. He is an animal. We start together in the morning for the first few miles and then he creeps behind me or beside me on the golf cart to rub salt under my nose when I get faint, squirt water in my mouth, blot the sweat off my brow…….

Ok….he is just there to time me and make me run 8 min. walk 3, run 5 min, walk 3, etc etc etc.

It is not a sweet time.

I get mad at him when he tells me that I haven’t ran long enough.

Are you thinking that you couldn’t do this?

Or that it should be easy?

Well, I have never even ran a single mile before.

On purpose.

So I am starting from scratch.

And if I can do it…….so can you.

I thought you might want to see some of my “hazards” so far when I run.

This morning.

Baby water moccasin.

My foot, almost on it’s head, when Romeo yelled snake.

My reaction….a gurgly, yelpy, high pitched, long scream.

His?

He killed it with a stick.

My hero.

Our watchdog.
Not much of a watchdog.

He was right there with me. No warning from him. Thanks.

Yesterdays hazards.

My weird family.

Came up on this yesterday.

Not something most people see on their running path.

My brother is a fireman.

He is exercising with that little teeny hole to breathe through.

He is a dork. I told him he needed to be careful, he could pass out.

He didn’t seem to appreciate my older sister wisdom.

Dork.

My next lap, I saw this.

I thought he was dead.

So, I took a picture first.

Dork.

He apparently does weights in between his laps.

Part of my view.

CR….Retired Dixie Stamped Horse.

Please note Troy in the background.

Rolling in CR’s….ummmmmmm……..leftovers.

Disgusting.

I tell myself that this picture is my progress.

That I am getting so tiny that you can’t see me behind that little bar on golfcart.

It had nothing to do with depth….

I’m tiny, Kk?

I also told my husband that if he took any more pictures of me running I will divorce him.

So…now you know part of what I’m up to.

Will I be able to run the full 10k?

Heck no.

I will be lucky if I get through 2k running.

Seriously.

But I have been fast walking 6 miles and figure I could at least do that.

I also figure if I don’t start sometime, I never will.

Anyone want to jump on with me?

Is there something you are waiting to try?

How much longer are you going to wait?

It’s time!

Speaking of putting off stuff.

Todays project.

Do not look at the table it is sitting on.

That is still a secret to show you guys later.

How would you paint this little round table?

Any suggestions?

I will show you what I do tomorrow!

In the meantime ….here are a few neat links that could help spur you to a 5k or 10k.

So…all of that to say….

*Want to prepare for a run or walk of 5k or 10k with me?
*How would you paint todays project?

Are you asleep with this super long post?

Wake up!

Love,

Me

PS. The blog is going through some changes that will hopefully be for the better! So, if you see some funky stuff for a few days, bear with me! I can’t wait to show you around after it’s done! Love, Me (again)

Good for you…running, walking or whatever…you’re only getting healthier. The snake would have done me in tho. Heart attack right then and there. Love that little table! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.

What a performance…your site kept freezing.
    Good luck with the “run”.
If I had come across the snake I would have broken all records.
    Lots of love.

LOL!! I’m pretty sure the snake would have been the end of me…I would have ended up on the ground like your brother! Good for you for trying something new and I wil just live vicariously through you will I sit here with a mini Snickers bar that I stole out of my daughter’s Halloween candy. I’m such a nice mommy! 🙂

Haha! I love to run, but I think I would have retired when I saw the snake. It’s a sign. Running is bad for you.:)

Wow! I’m so impressed! Good for you. I wish I liked running… but maybe that’s just it… you don’t actually like it until you can do it without wanting to die. 🙂

Check out itunes for a couch to 5k podcast! I downloaded it last year. I haven’t ran a 5 k yet but I cheer my sisters on at their marathons and ironman triathalons. Them 2 are tough acts to follow:-)
