I posted about this way back but felt this might be worth repeating with so many new friends.
Please excuse the photos and lighting. This was my old camera….at night.
First off….I am NOT rushing the season.
I am still “Embracing it”. ; )
This idea just might take some time and I wanted to give you a heads up.
Every year for my mothers birthday, in addition to her gift, we make a special ornament.
Not just a Christmas ornament but a “Memory” Christmas ornament.
Each ornament represents a “special” memory from our childhood.
My mother instilled in me a love of reading.
I took my favorite “mystery” books, that I know she painstakingly collected at yard and thrift sales, color copied them at 1/8 the size…wrapped them around a piece of Styrofoam of some kind and……
She knew immediately what I was telling her.
She took the time to create this memory for me.
Can you guess this one?
I had long blond hair. I loved when my mother would curl it in pink curlers, which was almost every night.
I had six brothers and sisters.
This was no easy task.
But she did it….and a memory was made.
Here is a peek into our “Memory Tree” with our home-made Christmas ornaments.
If the story wasn’t evident….it is printed on the ornament, or in the case above, wrapped around it.
I remember a dress that I had, that I know was a sacrifice to buy.
It had bells under the ruffles and I LOVED the “jingle” of those bells. I loved the attention it brought.
Imagine that…….me loving attention.
It’s my mothers fault.
Little bells…….a memory.
We started this years ago and it has become a tradition.
The tree is now full of not just ornaments but memories.
Our children get to hear the stories and they bring the Christmas ornaments out, asking for the story to be repeated.
A “Memory Tree” with Christmas ornaments that have meaning.
Can you think of someone who would love a Christmas ornament like this?
What memory pops up first pertaining to that person?
That would be the perfect one to use.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
