About Cotton Pickin’ Time…..
Have you ever used cotton for Christmas? Not like cotton balls but cotton in it’s natural state. If you live in the south, like I do, cotton in it’s natural state is as gorgeous to use for decorating as Magnolia leaves and evergreen.
And so easy.
My aim for Christmas this year?
Simple elegance.
I want to use simple evergreens…..pine cones……white lights……
Natural.
Simple.
That is my goal.
It’s not that I’m too lazy to drag everything out…..
Maybe.
It really isn’t. I truly want to embrace and live “less is more”.
For real.
This is one of the simple, yet beautiful things I want to implement into my Christmas decor?
Do you know what it is?
It’s branches from a marshmallow tree!
I’m fibbing.
It’s cotton.
We “gleaned” it on the way to Georgia this weekend.
Right now, I am going to embrace this gorgeous plant into my Thanksgiving decor.
I then plan to move it into my Christmas decor.
It is cotton harvest season here in the south.
Apparently it is a bountiful harvest this year.
Makes a drive on rural roads a sight to see……..
Have you ever seen a field of cotton?
Such a miracle of nature.
Isn’t it gorgeous?
Driving past the many fields of cotton reminded me of snow……probably the closest thing to snow that we will have.
When I saw the fields, I knew the cotton was what I needed to complete my “less is more” holiday decorating.
Simple.
But beautiful.
I will show you later where and how I use my cotton.
Think I’m crazy?
Think I will be black listed in the Christmas decor frenzy that seems to overtake us at times in the blog world?
I hope not. I think it is simply….beautiful.
Are you decorating differently this Christmas or Thanksgiving than years before?
Do you like the natural beauty of the cotton plant?
Doesn’t it have a gorgeous fall and winter look?
Anyone?
It’s time I get a cotton pickin’ answer.
; )

Simply beautiful! You can’t go wrong decorating with nature.
So jealous…..can’t find any beautiful cotton up here….can’t wait to see what you do with it 🙂
I love cotton! i live in SC so we have cotton too. I love driving through the fields. Its so peaceful. I dont have any near my house, but I love how you’re displaying yours! I’m a new follower. I hope you’ll follow me back but no pressure!
I absolutely love this — not sure I can get it this far north, but I can’t wait to see how you use yours!

The cotton plant is lovely. I have never seen one. FYI, I couldn’t find your contact/email button so I’m leaving a comment here. You should check out the email notice for your blog today…it is was mostly in html and it was so funny to read, because it sounded like your “aim for Christmas” was to do everything in html. What a hoot!
I’m from the south and you are so right! Cotton fields are beautiful! Wish I had some now. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!!
I live in Indiana and my sister planted cotton in her yard this year. It was very cool.
Cotton fields are beautiful here in GA, but when the cotton is picked it is sprayed with a chemical that smells horrible. Then when it is loaded on trucks and taken to market, it scatters all over the side of the road. It looks like trash on our highways. Just sayin…
I think the cotton plant is wonderful…reminds me of snow. your photos are gorgeous ! Im do the same old decorating. but I will try for less also. and not over do it. My 12 yr old son still will not let me use plain white lights he wants lots of color ! I do it for him fr now. later I will do it my way.

I LOVE the idea of using cotton to decorate for Christmas. Do you know any sources where someone from NE could order some?
Very pretty and yes I agree
Simple Christmases are the best with handmade and from the garden decorations
great post

I think it is sweetly simple and gorgeous! As much as I love the look of the glittery and shimmery Christmas decor (and I really do cuz I love sparkly things!!), simple Christmas decorating definitely puts me in mind of home and family in a huge way.
Beautiful pictures, too!! Your photography is really, really good!!
How funny…I’m using COTTON too:) I have been using it in my southern home since last Jan., so this will be my first Christmas decorate with it. Happy thanksgiving and thanks for coming to my party.
blessings,
Linda
Adore the cotton look. I am miles away from it though. Can ya send me some? Beautiful for Christmas!!
I {heart} cotton fields!! I think simple is beautiful too and I’m sure your Christmas decor will be lovely.
Cotton is heavy again across the south. It went up 400% on the comodities market last year so there is good money in growing it again. It’s also beautiful when it is blooming with yellow, white and pink blossoms.
We saw some cotton fields last week during a trip home to Calfornia for Thanksgiving. It always brings back great childhood memories. I love that you are using some stalks in vases for decorations. Clever!
