Shabby end table
I picked up a Thomasville end table from Craigslist.
I was in such a “painting” frenzy that I didn’t take a good before picture….so here is a close example from Thomasville’s website.

Are they seriously this expensive in real life?
I didn’t expect to get distracted by the price…..but…..DANG people!
I have to re-group now to get back on the painting before and after. I’m just a little shocked at what it may have been new. No wonder the guy thought I was a cheapskate at refusing to spend $20.00.
I really need to get out more.
Ok…..
It was in good shape but needed to be “shabby” style to fit into Beaches inventory.
So, I did this………
I call this my, “OH CRAP….I ain’t no Miss Mustard Seed” stage.
My first step was to take CeCe’s “Simply White” and paint the whole piece.
Don’t ask me why…I just did.
And then I freaked.
But freaking aside….the paint is really neat. It is similar to chalk paint but thinner. It is chalk/clay paint and it feels like ummmmm…….clay. It dries so quickly and makes doing multiple pieces at one time very easy.
I really liked the paint.
But I wasn’t liking the end table….. I was wondering where I would go next.
So, I did this.
I call this my, “Dang it, that isn’t what I pictured in my head” stage.
I new it needed something different than just the white and wanted to branch out and try color.
The color was Smokey Mountain and it was gorgeous but I still wasn’t feeling it.
Until I pulled out my sanding block…….and then it all started to come together.
If I don’t like it….I distress it. If I still don’t like it….I distress it more.
Then, eventually I make it to this stage.
I call this my, “I think this may be my favorite” stage.
Sweet and shabby.
I think this is the second piece that sold.

Distressing is the best! I freak, too, mid-way through painting furniture…
That is my kind of paint. It looks like you just slap it on. I am very aimless at times and love when you can be and it still looks good. I was very amazed how much the distressing made it all come together. I am very proud of all of your painting progress. I always think about when you first started painting in the leaves with some spray paint.
After following you for a LONG time, I finally painted some furniture. And repainted. My daughter bought a new bookshelf before I did anymore. I think I need to try the paint you use. The ‘it doesn’t have to be perfect’ kind. ‘Cuz your stuff is awesome!!!

Thomasville is very expensive and probably the only manufacturer that I would actually buy from… if it were on sale. The construction of Thomasville furniture is what makes the price tag worth it; in my opinion at least. New furntiture that is heavy, solid and well constructed… It’s worth every bit of $20. 🙂
Beautifully painted. I so love those colors. I will be in Myrtle Beach next week. I’d love to meet you if that’s at all possible. It gets lonely up here in Alaska as far as having other creative spirits to mingle with. The ladies at Beaches have been such a huge help to me in sending paint to me and just giving me their time over the phone chatting. I am super excited to be the heck out of Narnia for a while too…
Sorry, I’m on my ipad and haven’t quite figured out everything just yet. I was going to say, as far as Thomasville goes, you should stop into the store out off the hwy that goes over that bridge in North Myrtle. I cannot think of the name of the hwy… It’s one of the routes I’ve taken going to Raleigh. Or just to make things simpler… use old man Google. lol. Go get a good idea of what they carry and then snatch up any Thomasville you find. It’s definitely worth the investment! I’d have an entire house full of the stuff if I could afford to buy it… Unlike most junky furniture out these days this stuff is built to last much like our beloved antiques were. Okay… I’m done babbling away.
