Price comparison Costco vs. Walmart

If you hang out on my Facebook you know that I hit our Costco occasionally.

Many of your comments let me know that it is one of your favorite places to shop also.

When we are there, I am trying to remember what the cost of many products are in our Walmart/local groceries vs. Costco’s prices.
Costco is usually cheaper  but Walmart wins out on several basic items as well.

So, how do you remember when you are in a large warehouse store what Walmarts prices are vs. Costco?

I’m not so organized that I carry coupon books or price charts, although I wish I were. I do carry a phone with a camera though and today that was put to use.

Want to see our price comparison “tip” of the day?

Before I share, may I just say here that my hubby, bless his heart, canNOT take a picture in focus for the life of him.

He cannot on my good camera.
He cannot on my not so good camera.
He cannot even on his iphone.

He cannot take them in the rain. He cannot take them at a game….
He cannot take them in a jam. He cannot take them Sam I am. (I had to go with it.) ; )

So, how are we using our phones to price shop?

Note: No, I am not pregnant, although this shirt that I felt was hiding my big hind end, does give that impression. Great.……..

When we are at Costco I am always trying to remember what this or that product cost at Walmart. This time….I took photos of the price sticker under the product of a few of our favorite “staples” at Costco.

I can take pic’s. of the same items at Walmart (next time I am there) and compare them when I get home.

Then I shall make “notes” in my phone to remember.

I want to make sure the “units” prices are the same and if not, break it down so that both prices are compared via the same unit.

Do you pay attention to the unit prices when you are shopping?

That in itself is a HUGE money saver.

Is there a website that already has these answers and I do not know it?

Would you do this to see if you are spending too much on some of the warehouse items?

Think it is overboard?

Think it can save you money?

I do.

I would just like to make sure some of the items I pick up at Costco are worth buying in bulk vs. Walmart prices.

But I believe I will be the only on photographing.

Think you could use this trick?

Have another money saving trick you could share?

I would love to hear!

I do this too! Having cameras on phones is so handy! And internet too…I was getting a sewing machine demonstration last week and while the lady was setting it up I was reading reviews online.
I wish we had a Costco here. We do have a Sam’s club though and I am a regular shopper.

I am really mindful of prices but do not buy much at Walmart because they do not have a butcher on site. Costco does and their meat is really good.
I also have stopped buying at WalMart because just about everything you pick up is “made in China”. I want to try to buy more American.

    Have a wonderful day!

My husband is about as talented as yours in the camera dept. Ha!

Great tip! We love Costco and go once a month. We buy things like Capri suns, potty paper, and paper towels. We love their produce and so I usually grocery shop for the week while there as well. Thanx for joining THT!

Too funny. Love your sense of humor and don’t worry, you’re tiny. You don’t look pregnant. Great tip with the phone!

Well, you are just more brilliant than I would ever have thought to be! What a GREAT idea! I really do believe it’s a good idea to compare prices…costco Vs whatever. I’m SO gonna copy you next time I’m there! Thanks. Oh, and blurry or not, you look great, girl!

“my hubby, bless his heart, canNOT take a picture in focus”

It’s not a focus problem: it is CAMERA SHAKE. He hasn’t learned to hold the camera perfectly still as he squeezes the shutter button. The solution is an easy 2-step process.

First, find a hand position to hold the camera which allows you to gently SQUEEZE the shutter button without moving the camera (usually requires TWO hands).
Second, stop walking and hold statue-still with elbows tight to your body. Now use that learned hand position and squeeze that shutter (or very gently tap the iphone screen button).

I totally do this! I get a little snap happy on price tags when I’m shopping, but it’s the only way I’ll remember the price when I get home!

I love your idea, but won’t use it. I gave up on comparing and just go to Costco about every 3 weeks, then hit Walmart in between. Costco is 30 miles away, but give me an excuse to visit McKenny Texas, which is nearby. I find if I just buy everything I can at Costco, I come out ahead…or at least I’m stocked up and don’t have to make too many trips to local stores!

I would love to hear the results of your comparison!
